How to keep your kids hydrated and healthy in the summer heat

The summer breeze makes us all feel fine. And as much as we all yearn the sunbaths and outdoor activities; the scorching heat does take the fun away. To top it all, it’s the kids that suffer the most. It is the perfect time to play outside and make the most of their vacation. However, the harsh summer could lead to several injuries. This calls for extra protection that keeps your kid healthy and most importantly, hydrated. Take a look at the tips to help your kids stay healthy.

  • Timely Reminders

As a parent, it is natural to get worried about your kids. In this case, you must take matters into your hands. Regardless of the times, you inform your kids about the importance of hydration— they will not care. It is time to stay vigilant and give them drink reminders to consume a glass of water at regular intervals. Kids take fluids only on feeling extreme heat otherwise they are busy playing. You must stay alert and make them drink water in timely intervals. As long as they are consuming an adequate amount of water every day, they are good to go.

  • Dietary changes

Summer vacations call for every child to have fun. Amidst the entertainment, they tend to indulge; sometimes overdo it. You must keep track of your child’s diet to avoid some health conditions like stomach aches, diarrhea, headaches, etc. Make sure they eat bland food and consume items with high water content. Fresh, seasonal vegetables should be used in everyday cooking. Intake of fried, greasy foods should be avoided as much as possible.

  • Frequent showers

You must make your child bathe at least twice a day. Due to harsh sun rays, body temperature tends to rise. This could get the child sick. Make sure they take a cold shower in the morning and when they come home after any outdoor activity. This will not only help them in lowering body temperature but also restore their energy. A shower before bedtime will help them relax and sleep better.

  • Planned Playtime

It is fun to play outside and that’s the best part of summers. But it would be best to stay protected from the torrid heat. If you regulate their playtime, they will have extreme fun while staying safe from harsh sun rays. Plan indoor games for your kid and their friends. Make sure they avoid stepping outside between 10 am and 4 pm. The sun’s rays are extremely harsh during these hours. If they still insist on playing outside, make sure they play in a sheltered area that has adequate shade.

  • Make hydration fun

We don’t realize the worth of water until we are adults. Kids perceive water merely as an agent to quench their thirst. Make flavored lollipops, ice creams, and yogurts to keep them hydrated. Use fresh fruits and curd in the salads for a healthy kick. Make fruit mocktails, juices, and smoothies a regular afternoon treat. This way you offer health and hydration that tastes fantastic.

  • Beat the Heat

Kids can’t make it a habit to remain indoors. They will, regardless of everything you do, will insist on going outside. And fortunately for you, even when they are out, they can remain protected. Offer them a sunburn drink before they step out and even when are back after they are back home. Their taste buds will love this citrusy, refreshing drink. Packed with essential nutrients, it protects the skin on the outside and from within. Your kid remains hydrated and protected from getting sunburnt.

Summertime is all about fun and frolic. And the tips mentioned above will keep your kid hydrated and healthy throughout this blissful season!
